Week 3
When I came here first time, I found that American doesn't dry their closes in the sun. They use the dryer. It was a little inadaptable for me. However I like to use the dryer a lot. Because it is really convenience. My first time to come the USA in 2015. In that time my English is not very well. I studied English in my country. We do a lot reading in class. However, we did not do a lot speaking. So, when I came the USA, I couldn't speak out. I remember that one time I and my wife were hungry. We went to a fast food store that is IN&OUT to order some foods. We just saw the menus and ordered the first one combo. After we ordered, the cashier asked "Do you want to some cash back?". My wife and me were confused. I was thinking why they want to give me money back. Due to my poor speaking, I just answer her "No". And then, we got the food and went to my home. When we got home and ready to start our delicious dinner. We found that there is no ketchup! Suddenly, I realized that the cashier might ask me ketchup not cash back! These two words sound similar for me when I came here just 2 days. My wife and me felt ridiculous. It was hard to talk to American for me. However, after sever times practicing I can talk easily to American now. There is a wonderful thing when I came here. When I was in China, I didn't eat a lot steaks. Because it is expensive and it tasted not good. When I came here, the steaks are so delicious and cheaper than China. I love it! I love Texas!
I was laughing when I read your experience. It's quite interesting!
ReplyDeleteFor me, when I go shopping, I would say "yes" most of the time if people ask me if I want anything that I get confused. I think when I say yes, I can bury my embarrassment that I don't understand them, or I don't know what they were talking about. I remember saying yes to pretend every time I could not get what they were asking. For the other experience thing about the dryers, I had same feeling. Because in Vietnam we always hang the clothe up under the sunshine to get them dry during noon. It was also strange for me to wash clothe, dry them with the machines, and all ready to wear just couple of hours.
